This is one of my favorite plants because of it's untamed, wild architecture. Yes, some people use these as hedges but mine are free-flowing. They make the Spring garden pop and they are fabulous cut flowers. Their woody nature gives them staying power that other flowers don't have in the vase. I simply change the water every two to three days, using cold water, to try and replicate the Springtime chill.
